Anyone who has tried the best Dyson hair tools immediately understands the hype: sleek designs and innovative features—including airflow- and temperature-regulating technology—that make drying and styling easier, faster, and more intuitive. For example, most tools use smart heat sensors that automatically adjust the temperature based on your hair type and how close the device is to your scalp. Even the hair dryers come with versatile attachments—diffusers, flyaway tamers, and straighteners, you name it—so you can upgrade your current stock of one-trick stylers. Some devices also offer Bluetooth compatibility so you can connect to the brand's app and save your most commonly used features.

Why it’s worth it: When you think the original Airwrap couldn’t get any better, the Dyson Airwrap Co-anda2x comes along to prove us wrong. Think of it as the Swiss Army knife of multi-stylers because it seamlessly dries, curls, and straightens hair in record time. While the price tag is steep, it’s worth every penny—see the 2026 Best of Beauty Award seal for proof. This particular Airwrap has the most high-powered motor of all Dyson tools, spinning at 150,000 RPM (revolutions per minute), which means it smoothes and dries hair in less time than ever. (In comparison, the standard Airwrap clocks in at 110,000 RPM.) The tool also automatically lowers its power when it senses that it’s been put down, so you can have peace of mind when you need to pause mid-styling. The device weighs in at just under a pound (making it the lightest tool on this list)—a useful feature for those with longer, thicker hair, especially curls and coils that need to be sectioned out. (Repeat after us: No sore arms!)
No matter which of the six included attachments you use, from a curl-friendly diffuser to a volumizing round brush, the Co-anda2x instantly recognizes which one you’re using and adjusts the temp based on your previous setting. A recent addition our editors love: The new Air Straightener 2x attachment (sold separately, if you choose the Curly+Coily version) uses high-velocity airflow between two smoothing plates to pull hair taut—minus the overly heated tug-and-pull you might get from a traditional flatiron. P.S. Similar to the Airwrap I.D., there’s a Straight+Wavy version that includes the straightener attachment and a smaller barrel, rather than the diffuser and wide-tooth tension comb attachment included with the Curly+Coily version.

“This is the best Dyson tool I have ever tried—period. I have type 3A curly hair that I sometimes wear natural and sometimes blow-dry; this version of the Airwrap gets whatever look I want to achieve done in 15 minutes or less (yes!). This is coming from someone with low-porosity hair that takes seemingly forever to dry. The fact that I can get my curly hair handled before one of my two kids notices I'm gone is a miracle in itself. I love to use the round brush to create gentle tension that makes my blowouts last for days on end; the attachment is a vast improvement over the older version, IMO. This new iteration gets far closer to the roots for a more natural finish. There's zero frizz, all volume, and just the most Farrah Fawcett-like hair of your life—no tugging, singing, or sore arms necessary. And the diffuser? There are two settings, and both are so effective at giving you bouncy and juicy curls. One really amazing feature is that the tool automatically shuts off when it senses that it’s been put down, an unexpected but much-loved perk for routine stylers like me.
If you have the original Airwrap, if you're new to multi-stylers, or if you're Dyson-curious, this is the product to buy—especially in this new Amber Silk color. It’s a pretty warm honey that's more my style than the classic midnight blue. Any Dyson is an investment, and while this one's steep, you'll be able to kiss your curling iron, blow dryer, and straightener goodbye with a single hot tool. For curly girls especially, it's nice to have a tool that feels tailor-made for your routine. The only person I might not recommend it for? A constant traveler who loves doing their hair on the go; the power cord is heavy and not very compact, making this less frequent flier-friendly than other stylers on the market.” —Shanna Shipin, senior commerce director

"As an OG Airwrap owner, I had my doubts that the Co-anda2x could possibly be worth another $200+. Then I used it. If, say, you take the 8:32 train and sometimes wait until 8:15 to blow-dry your hair—I’d definitely consider investing. Since I started using this multi-styler, my blow-dry time has been cut down by at least five crucial minutes. This tool is powerful, and it is hot (so hot that I must warn you to wait a beat before switching out attachments during your blow-dry). The dryer attachment is—on my long, wavy, medium-thickness hair—as effective as Dyson's dedicated Supersonic dryer. (If you have very thick or coarse hair, you might feel differently, but for me, this can replace a regular blow-dryer.) After a couple of minutes of rough-drying, I go in with the large round brush to smooth and get some volume at my roots. Four minutes of sectioned brushing and I switch to the larger of the two curling barrels to create loose waves. In less than 10 minutes—a first for me—I’m done.” —Jenny Bailly, executive director

Why it’s worth it: Since its debut in 2018, the Dyson Airwrap has reserved a permanent spot in our editors’ hairstyling routines, racking up seven Best of Beauty and Readers’ Choice Awards along the way—including a coveted Best of Beauty Breakthrough Award in 2019 and Best of Beauty Award in 2025. In 2024, the brand upgraded its iconic styler with the Airwrap I.D., available in two versions: Straight/Wavy (with a thicker curling attachment and a flyaway smoother) and Curly/Coily (with six standard attachments, plus a diffuser and wide-tooth comb).
The Airwrap I.D. is a smarter take on the original—proof that even an already-great hair tool still has room to improve. Both versions feature Bluetooth connectivity that links to the Dyson app, letting you create a personalized hair profile. Based on your hair type and thickness, you can tweak heat settings, select your preferred curling sequence, and follow guided styling tutorials, which the device recognizes for the next time you style (based on the previous settings you chose). Some editor-loved attachments—including a conical barrel with a tapered tip, a large round volumizing brush for maximum bounce, and a hair dryer attachment that the brand claims dries hair in eight minutes compared to the original model’s 15 minutes—round out why this customizable tool is so beloved and worth the price tag.
Like the original Airwrap, there’s a bit of a learning curve, but that’s nothing a little practice (and the guided tutorials!) can’t solve. P.S. If you already own the old Dyson Airwrap, don’t fret—it’s compatible with all six of the newer I.D. attachments, so you can buy those separately if you’re not ready to dish out the extra money.

“Recently, I’ve been using my old hair dryer brush because my Dyson was tucked away, but last weekend I brought it back out to give it a whirl, and I totally forgot how fast it works. I swear, it takes me at least 15 minutes longer using my blow-dryer brush. Now that it’s back in my life, it’s staying at the top of my hair-care drawer for the moments that I need a shiny, bouncy blowout in half the time (which, for this busy gal, is always!).” —Lily Wohlner, former commerce writer

“This is the best hair tool I've ever had and leaves me with a voluminous blowout that lasts days. It is a true multi-tool that works quickly and quietly. I love that you can select your hair type and length on the app, which then creates your custom heat and time formula: wrap time, plus curl time, plus cool shot. I no longer have to think about how long I'm holding the tool against my hair because it releases the curl at the end of my wrap time. I’m obsessed!” —Ingrid Fowler, senior art director

“This has become a tool I literally cannot live without. As a girl with fine hair and curtain bangs, my hair is not hard to style, but it is not the kind that looks good when I’ve just rolled out of bed. The curling and round brush attachments have become a crucial part of my routine, and the Dyson makes curling or blowing out my hair so user-friendly. I use this on damp hair and dry hair when I'm styling it and it gives me curls that hold without the heat damage and fear of burning myself with an iron. Even when I'm in a hurry, it only takes me three minutes to run the round brush over my bangs and curl in the ends of my bob.” —Katherine Gunderman, social media manager

Why it’s worth it: Just when we thought Dyson had every hair category covered, it announced the Airsmooth: a dedicated wet-to-dry round brush designed for drying, smoothing, and volumizing hair in one swoop. Although the Airwrap comes with a round brush attachment, our editors make the case for this standalone version. Instead of a standard barrel-shaped head, the Airsmooth is designed with a sleek, teardrop shape that lets you get as close to the root as possible and add volume—or, on the other end, flick the ends for a bouncy, blowout-inspired look. The tapered, hyper-flexible bristles—which is thanks to Dyson’sPivotFlex and Anti-Snag technologies—allow the teeth to bend up to 90 degrees to gently release knots without snagging or creating unnecessary tension. The bristles sit on an open base, too, which helps distribute the high-pressure airflow evenly rather than in one concentrated stream, resulting in a smoother finish without the dreaded scalp burn, even at its highest setting.
And, like all Dyson tools on this list, the Airsmooth uses smart heat technology to monitor its temperature 100 times a second and adjust accordingly based on your hair type. We put the launch to the test amongst four Allure editors across many hair styles, from fine, long hair to thick coils, and found that it performed best when used in smaller sections for a bouncy, smooth blowout. But if you have fine hair, Allure content director Sophia Panych recommends using the narrow edge of the brush head to get the most lift at the root.

“This is my first time using a blow-dry brush, and I finally understand why stylists use a round brush for a voluminous blowout. Prior to this, I was always worried about my coily hair getting tangled, but unlike boar bristles, this brush has smooth tines that bend with the hair. I started my test with freshly washed, damp hair. I sprayed small sections with my Kenra Professional Thermal Styling Spray and used my FHI Heat Unbrush to make sure everything was detangled before going in with the AirSmooth. Because I’m new to a brush tool, I used smaller sections than I normally would. I first focused on stretching the hair at the ends, then I went back to the roots. I moved the brush both on top of and below the section in order to get the best tension—I was a bit of a contortionist!
Something about this blowout is fluffier and more voluminous than my normal result with the Dyson Airwrap comb attachment, and I’m not sure if I like that. Overall, the process takes the same amount of time—45 minutes to an hour. The brush is great at getting the tension you need to smooth coily hair, so much so that I was a little worried I was pulling too hard on my fine hair. However, it was hard to get the very ends smooth.” —Jessica Cruel, editor in chief

Why it’s worth it: The latest upgrade to the original Supersonic Hair Dryer (a classic that we still haven’t retired), the Dyson Supersonic Nural automatically adjusts heat settings as you move it closer to your scalp, preventing sudden heat spikes and protecting your delicate skin. In fact, it took home a 2024 Best of Beauty Breakthrough Award for its innovative Time to Flight sensor, which detects how far it is from your hair.
Plus, it remembers your most-used settings, seamlessly adapting the heat and airflow, and can also sense which of the five included magnetic (!) attachments—a concentrator, diffuser, wide-tooth comb, a little hook for flyaways, or a ring for gentle airflow—you've popped on, adjusting its temperature and airflow accordingly. That’s on top of its three speed settings, four heat levels, and cold-shot feature, so you can style your hair precisely and set diffused curls in place. We’d also like to add that some editors have even styled their entire heads in under five minutes. And if you need to pause to re-section, it instantly detects when you set it down, lowering airflow and noise until you’re ready to pick it up again.

“On wash days, I usually let my hair air-dry, but a few times a month, I'll use my Dyson Nural hair dryer to speed up the process. I specifically like using the diffuser attachment to enhance my natural waves. In addition to its sleek, aesthetically pleasing design, the Dyson Nural is quieter than other tools I've used and extremely light—a plus when you realize half the work of using a hair dryer is holding your arms up. It also significantly reduces my drying time—now I'm in and out of the bathroom in under 10 minutes. I've experienced minimal heat damage while using it, likely thanks to its impressive technology: the Nural automatically adjusts its heat settings as it gets closer to your scalp. Dyson's products are on the pricier side, but they're worth the investment. I've had my Airwrap for 7 years now (!!), and it still works perfectly fine—almost like I got it yesterday.” —Elizabeth Gulino, senior staff writer

Allure senior beauty editor Jesa Marie Calaor using the Dyson Airstrait Straightener
Jesa Marie Calaor
Why it’s worth it: We can still hear the sizzle and smell the burnt hair from our high school days—frantically running a straightener over our damp hair before sprinting out the door (which, might we add, you should never do). If only we had the Dyson Airstrait back then, which allows you to dry and straighten your hair with one device—saving you precious time (even if you’ve swapped school for the office). Unlike traditional straighteners that can cause damage and frizz with excessive amounts of heat, this tool skips hot plates entirely. Instead, the Airstrait uses unheated tension bars to hold damp or dry hair (emphasis on damp, never wet) in place while high-velocity air (up to 285 degrees Fahrenheit) is blown at a precise 45-degree angle to quickly dry and smooth. Once you’re done heat-styling, run the Cool setting through each section to set your look.
“At temperatures this low, this tool is unlikely to cause damage to even wet hair,” New Brunswick, New Jersey-based cosmetic chemist Trefor Evans previously told Allure. Plus, built-in thermostats regulate airflow temperature up to 16 times per second to minimize heat damage, leaving you with shinier hair every time.

"It's really nice not having to hold a brush in one hand and a hair dryer in the other for the 30-plus minutes it takes for my hair to dry. The wide clamp is great for covering large sections of hair all at once, but I definitely needed multiple passes to add shine and smoothness to my curly hair.” —Sarah Hoffmann, commerce market editor

“My hair dries poofy, so I had my doubts that the Airstrait could subdue it without heated plates. Before styling, I towel-dried, prepped my waves with the Lolavie Glossing Detangler, and divided [my waves] into four sections. Then I pressed the “on” button and ran the tool down smaller sections, about an inch and a half thick. “After I finished styling my entire head — which took about 20 minutes — my hair was straight and extra-soft. Like, really soft. And my ends didn’t feel as thirsty as they do after styling with other wet-to-dry tools.”—Jesa Marie Calaor, senior beauty editor

How we test and review products
We always enlist a range of testers for any review, but hair-care products and tools are another story. While some can be used across different hair textures, lengths, curl patterns, thicknesses, colors (natural and unnatural), and concerns, many are created with specific consumers and their needs in mind. When reviewing tools, we also take into account testers’ experience levels. For instance, an innovative new blow-dryer may feature industry-leading technology, but if the only people who find it intuitive to use are professional hairstylists, we have to consider this when determining whether it is worthy of a recommendation.
For our review of the best Dyson hair tools, we enlisted the help of multiple editors, writers, contributors, and experts—who all have different hair concerns and types and desired outcomes (i.e., want shinier hair), and factored in whether one product was tested across multiple hair types (i.e., straight, wavy, and curly hair). Testers considered performance across three primary categories: efficacy, safety and ease of use, and value. For more on what's involved in our reporting, check out our complete reviews process and methodology page.
Our staff and testers
A beauty product is a personal purchase. You might be searching for a face cream to address persistent dryness or a new nail product to add to your Sunday self-care routine; you may simply be browsing around for the latest launches to hit the hair market. No matter what you seek or your individual needs and concerns, Allure wants to ensure that you love anything we recommend in our stories. We believe that having a diverse team of writers and editors—in addition to the wide range of outside testers and industry experts we regularly call upon—is essential to reaching that goal.
After all, can we really say a skin-care product is the "best" for people over 50 if the only testers we’ve solicited opinions from folks who have yet to hit 30? Can we honestly deem a high-end diffuser hair dryer worthy of your hard-earned cash if it’s never been tested on curls? We’re proud that our staff spans a wide range of ages, skin tones, hair textures, genders, and backgrounds, which means that we are able to fairly assess any beauty product that comes into the beauty closet.
